New Moon Writing Weekend
Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email with directions to the meeting location!
Join us under a new moon for a weekend full of bright stars and early wildflowers: Workshops on writing craft help all level writers deepen their practice of writing as conversation, and as a practice of attention to the world. We will generate suprising new poetry and short prose.
Patti Trimble has been teaching for the Field Institute for over twenty years, and her supportive and intelligent approach creates a friendly, respectful, and thoughtful community of writers. You will find quiet time in wide and wild Point Reyes, a place where "beginners mind" seems only natural. Surrounded by trees, rivers, and ravens, join us to explore the mystery of how we shape thoughts and feeling with words.
Each weekend is largely shaped by the participants, from published writers to beginners, we create a pop-up writer's community. It generally looks like this:
Friday evening opens the weekend with writing prompts, workshop, and meeting each other though words.
Saturday morning's long workshop focuses on elements of writing craft and practice. In previous weekends, topics have been: content, description, voice, "the pastoral", collaborative writing, poetic and narrative forms, risk-taking, audience, metaphor, humor . . .. Participants are invited to stretch their skills by trying various forms and inventing forms. Saturday also offers time to write and wander, a relaxed potluck dinner, and an evening workshop.
On Sunday, a silent morning of writing allows time to focus and polish the weekend's work. Then we share it in a respectful reading.
A full service kitchen is provided. Please bring all meals and snacks. The nearest stores and restaurants are 20 miles away over country roads, so you will need to be self-sufficient. By tradition, Saturday night is pot-luck with everyone sharing food. So be sure to bring a dish to share for Saturday dinner, as well as food for yourself.
